Airlie Beach, a beach resort town, is the stepping stone to the Whitsunday Islands . Located on the mainland of Australia , but with miles of soft white sands and tranquil waters, Airlie Beach offers a value-for-money holiday and is popular with backpackers.
The Whitsunday Islands are a group of seventy-four islands which provide some of the most stunning tropical scenery in Australia with palm trees, sandy shores and exotic flora and fauna adorning them. Many are surrounded by tropical coral reefs which are excellent for scuba diving, snorkelling or simply reef walking and observing the living natural wonder beneath your feet.
Day trips are available from the mainland or many islands offer accommodation where you can stay and explore. If you fancy a spot of island hopping however, there are ferries running between some points and you can take a look around at your own pace. Alternatively, take a helicopter ride to get a bird's eye view of the islands and be amazed by their beauty.
Numerous activities are available on the islands: try sailing, hiking or fishing during the days, and at night let the star-spotted canopy above sooth you to sleep.
