Warrumbungle National Park

Experiences in Australia

Warrumbungle is located in central northern New South Wales, and is one of the state's most-visited national parks. It is renowned for its exceptionally clear atmosphere, which results in great views of the night sky, so star gazers flock to the park for this reason alone. There's much more on offer for the more active visitor too, with the rocky mountains making it a mecca for climbers.

The park's spectacular scenery also draws in photography enthusiasts. Wildlife can be seen everywhere, including various species of kangaroos and wallabies, emus and an array of birdlife. Koalas are often observed as well.

There are a number of camping grounds with basic facilities (bring your own firewood) and free electric barbecues. There is a visitor centre and educational centre, and a number of picnic areas, with Canyon Picnic Area being particularly well serviced with toilets (with disabled access), electric barbecues, water, tables - and all in an attractive bush setting.

The nearest town is Coonabarabran (35km, 30 mins); from here take the John Renshaw Parkway, which leads directly to the park.
