Tasman National Park

Australia hotels

The Tasman National Park is located in south eastern Tasmania, on the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas. From Hobart, take the A3 to Sorell, and the Arthur Hwy A9 to Port Arthur. There are several main access roads: the northern end can be accessed via the Blowhole Rd C338 turnoff just past Eaglehawk Neck. To reach the southern end, drive further along the A9 to Port Arthur, where you will find access to Fortescue Bay.

Park facilities include campgrounds at Fortescue Bay that can be accessed via 2WD, with over 40 sites and able to accommodate caravans. A boat launch is nearby, as are shower blocks, barbecues, fireplaces, and toilets. Day use visitors will find picnicking, swimming, fishing, sightseeing, and bushwalking opportunities. Boats can also be launched from the Blowhole in Pirates Bay, and anchorages are available in Fortescue Bay and Port Arthur when conditions are favorable. Rock climbing is popular on the Totem Pole and Candlestick formations.

This is an area of wild, natural beauty and you can see it up lose by sea kayaking and canoeing around the rugged cliffs. Tasmania’s dolerite cliffs and columns lend themselves well to rock climbing and abseiling. A new hang gliding launch site now overlooks Pirates Bay. Bushwalking tracks throughout the park take you up close to waterfalls and spectacular views of the coastal formations. Walking trail opportunities range from short strolls to 2 and 3 day overnight walks. Some of the best coastal walks in the country will take you near stunning coastline and sea cliffs with a huge range of marine and land animals, along with many rare plants.
