Sturt National Park is situated in the far west corner of New South Wales and covers 340,000 hectares of semi-desert country. The scenery is typically outback – arid, red and dotted with occasional trees and small rocky gorges. It’s worth taking a couple of days to explore the area; there are many walks and scenic drives to enjoy and heritage sites to visit

There is accommodation available at Mt Wood Historic Homestead and Shearers’ Quarters; both have kitchens and bathrooms. There are also four well-situated camping grounds which are rich in wildlife and close to historic sites. The best time to visit is between April and October, when the climate is kinder. The temperature can reach over 40° C in summer, while winter nights can drop to below zero.

The park is located 335 km north of Broken Hill along the partly paved Silver City highway and 400 km west of Bourke on upaved road. Roads may be closed after heavy rain, so check ahead before departure.
