Australia resorts

The word ‘resort' often seems to be used interchangeably with ‘hotel'. However, to many people, ‘resort' is associated more with a destination that can be a holiday in itself.

Holiday resorts are usually located in the more isolated regions, such as islands and wilderness or outback areas. There are usually a large range of activities on offer so that it is possible for guests to spend their entire holiday there without ever leaving the resort, other than to take part in resort-organised activities.

Probably the most well-known holiday resorts are those on the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. However, resorts can also be found in places like Western Australia 's Kimberley region, central Australia , the Flinders Ranges in South Australia , Cradle Mountain in Tasmania , and the alpine areas of Victoria and New South Wales .

Typically, resorts offer a range of accommodation types with associated differing price ranges. It's not just always about the interior either, with there often being options of different view types, for example, garden or water views. Accommodation may be available in single rooms, suites, or self-contained apartments.

Many resorts will have a number of eating establishments from which guests can choose, from restaurants to cafés. There will also usually be facilities such as pool, spa, gym, day spa and, possibly, shops. However, holiday resorts are often about making the most of the natural environment. Depending on where a resort is located, activities can include water-based pastimes such as fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, or sailing; snow skiing; bushwalking; golf; wildlife watching; and day tours.

Different resorts may focus on different types of people, for example, couples, singles or families, with activities and facilities on offer aimed primarily at this focus group.

As there is a wide range of accommodation types available at resorts, the corresponding tariffs also vary greatly. Per night rates can be as low as $150 up to nearly $4,000 per room. However, between about $300 and $900 is more common. Often packages for multiple nights will be offered at discounted nightly rates. What is included in these prices varies between resorts, with possible inclusions being meals, drinks, or activities.
