Ningaloo Marine Park stretches 260 km along the central coast of Western Australia, stretching from Bundegi Reef in the Exmouth Gulf to Amherst Point. It extends 10 miles seaward, and covers more than 5,000 km² of ocean. Access is via the North West Coastal Highway and Exmouth.
There are no facilities for visitors within the marine park itself. However, nearby Exmouth has plenty of lodging, restaurants, and taverns. Also in nearby Coral Bay you can walk everywhere in town, swim, snorkel and feed the fish off the beach.
The main thing to see is the world-famous Ningaloo Reef, which is one of the world’s biggest and definitely most accessible fringing reefs.
Less than 100 m offshore, the reef is visible from the beach. Take your snorkeling or diving gear and get up close with the diverse corals of all colors and more than 500 different species of fish. Regular visitors to the reef are docile whale sharks, turtles, dolphins, dugongs, and humpback whales. A number of snorkel sites are easily reached by auto, though some will need 4WD. The beautiful beaches that line the Ningaloo Reef region are an added bonus. Fishing is allowed outside of the park’s sanctuary zones only.
