Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park

Australia hotels

Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park is just 30 kilometers south of Sale, and immediately adjacent to the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.

Facilities at Ninety Mile Beach are very limited, and you should carry in your own food and water, and also be sure to remove all trash.  Swimming and boating are very popular in the park, as is studying the immense flora and fauna that is granted protection by the National Park designation.

Additional facilities, such as camping, fishing, boat ramps, horse riding, and walking tracks are available at Gippsland Park.

Ninety Mile Beach contains soft coral that is known to have the highest diversity of species anyplace in the world. Within ten square meters, scientists found 860 different species living in the sand, in one meter, 187 species.   The Common Stargazer is one of the biggest fish found near reefs, though they bury themselves so well in the sand it is hard to see them.  Hearth Urchins are very common, and you’ll likely see some furrowing through the sand.   Ninety Mile Beach is a long, thin sand dune thrown up by the sea, and all around is smooth, flat plains of sand under the water.
