New England National Park

Australia hotels

New England is Australia's second oldest national park. It is located on an escarpment to the east of the Northern Tablelands, 560km north of Sydney. The diverse landscape is something of a wilderness, made up of rugged cliffs and ridges, and interspersed with rainforest. The weather can be very changeable and snowfall is not uncommon in higher areas, in the colder months. There are some long and challenging walking trails, or it is possible to enjoy spectacular views on one of the many shorter walking paths which lead to lookout points. The most popular of these is Point Lookout (1,563 m above sea level), just 100m from the car park, from where on a clear day it is possible to see as far as the Pacific Ocean. This walk is wheelchair accessible.

There are a few self-catering accommodation options around the park, mainly geared towards bushwalkers. There is also a scenic camping ground located on Point Lookout Road, near the park entrance and handily close to many of the park's biggest natural attractions.

New England National Park is accessed 85 km east of Armidale on the Waterfall Way, which is an unpaved road.
