Namadgi National Park

Experiences in Australia

The Namadgi essentially joins up with the Kosciuszko National Park in the south west, whilst the north west section lies just to the west of Canberra's outer suburbs. It's an historically important area and one of great cultural significance to the indigenous Australian people of the Alps region. There are numerous Aboriginal sites in the park, including paintings at Yankee Hat which are over 800 years old.

The Namadgi Visitor Centre, near Tharwa, is a good place to start your visit. There are several displays to explore, a theatre and a shop where you can obtain information, maps and books about the park. Guided walks are also available to book in the park, during high season.

There are plenty of activities to choose from, including horse riding on a designated trail, rock climbing and abseiling, fishing in mountain streams, bush walking (day and overnight trips) and skiing (in winter only and dependant on access). There are several designated camping areas with basic facilities.
