Mon Repos Conservation Park, a world-famous turtle sanctuary, is located 14km east of Bundaberg, on Queensland's central coast. Mon Repos hosts the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland, including the endangered loggerhead turtle, flatbacks and green turtles. The park's scenery is made up of glorious sandy beaches, a tidal lagoon, rainforest, mangroves, and historic sites.
Between November and March, it is possible to take a night tour of the beach. You can witness turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs, or observe tiny hatchlings in their nests of making their way to the sea. It is very popular, so it's essential you book ahead. Aside from the turtles, this is a place to relax, to take quiet beach time, spot birds or explore rock pools.
Camping is not permitted at Mon Repos, but there is a caravan park adjacent to the park. There are also accommodation options at Bargara and Bundaberg.
Mon Repos is situated about 4.5 hours drive north from Brisbane and just 15 mins east of Bundaberg. If driving from Bundaberg, follow the signs to Bargara along the Bundaberg-Bargara Road and the park is signposted from there.
