Meningie is seet on the edge of the freshwater Lake Albert and the northern tip of the vast saltpans of Coorong National Park. Fishing is a major industry. Meningie area abounds with birdlife, including ibis, pelicans, cormorants, ducks and swans. Sailing, boating, water-skiing and swimming are popular.
Attractions in the area
Camp Coorong is located 12 km to the south has museum and cultural centre and it also has bush tucker tours. Lake Alexandrina is the largest permanent fresh water lake in the country and is around 50, 000 ha. Poltalloch homestead is present at 30 km to the North West and it is one of the oldest in the region.
West of Meningie, channel between the lakes is crossed by ferry service at Narrung. Islands, ocean beach and wildlife is present along the south and west corridors of Coorong. 4 WD tours are conducted. Drive along the Lake Albert gives you a scenic glimpse of Meningie and its surrounding areas and it is a scenic place to watch.
