Lark Quarry National Park

Australia hotels

Lark Quarry is located 110km south west of Winton, in the 'Jump Up' country of western Queensland - a landscape of mesas, gullies and steep escarpments. It is most famous for being home the world's only living evidence of a dinosaur stampede, containing over 3,300 fossilized footprints. The tracks are protected inside a large and impressive building, which has been carefully constructed using sustainable methods and is solar powered. There is also a visitor centre where you can learn all about this incredible stampede, which took place an estimated 95 million years ago. The only way to view the tracks is with a guided tour; these take place throughout the day.

The closest accommodations are in and around Winton. Winton is also the last stop to stock up on fuel, food and drink. The direct route to Lark Quarry from Winton is via the Winton-Jundah Road, which is suitable for 2WD vehicles.
