Kosciuszko National Park is located in the south-eastern corner of New South Wales, 354 km southwest of Sydney, covering 690,000 hectares. It contains Australia's highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko, and the country's highest town, Cabramurra. The alpine climate, combined with the rugged mountain scenery, makes it popular with walkers and winter sports enthusiasts. Downhill skiing and snowboarding are concentrated in the central section of the park, at resorts such as Perisher Blue, Thredbo and Charlotte Pass. There are also plenty of opportunities for cross-country skiing. Horse riding, cycling, boating, canoeing, rafting and fishing are also popular activities here.
There are a number of cottages for hire in and around the park and a large number of camping grounds, most of which have non-flush toilets, picnic areas and barbecues.
There are various access points to the park, the nearest towns being Jindabyne (10 km). Adaminaby (15 km) and Tumut (15 km). Be aware that snow chains may be required in the winter months across certain routes.
