The historical capital of Tasmania , Hobart offers beautiful architecture over a cityscape that is different from any you may have seen before. Tall, magnificent buildings enhance the city's natural beauty, while more contemporary elements define the cities cosmopolitan nature. Home to Mount Wellinton, a 1,271metre mountain that offers walking trails and spectacular views, Hobart is one of the less commercial destinations in Australia.
With a mild climate (unlike many locations in Australia, it has four distinct seasons), a city steeped in history such as this has a lot to offer the visitor.
Hobart is home to Australia 's first legal casino which still towers over surrounding grounds, and musical acts are often on show there. Then there is the Theatre Royal, Australia 's oldest theatre, and plenty of places to eat and drink the night away. As well as local delicacies, expect to try French, Italian, Chinese, Thai and Mexican food.
Hobart is recognised for yachting and is the finishing point of the ‘ Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race' which commences on Boxing Day. The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are stunning, awash with vibrant flowers and grounds that can be enjoyed at your leisure. The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra is not to be missed, with a year round programme, it is well worth a visit.
A city full of history and interests, Hobart brings something a little different and unique to Australian tourism.

Cascade Brewery - Australia's oldest brewery, the Cascade brewery, was built in 1832 and is still producing beer and soft drink today. The brewery has tours with tastings as well. There are plenty of stairs to help build up a thirst. Enclosed flat shoes must be worn as well as long trousers, no skirts or shorts for health and safety reasons. Weekday tours are best as no machinery runs on the weekends. Bookings are a must. Paula Duggan
Cadbury Visitor Centre
Located in Claremont, a short drive from Hobart, the Cadbury Visitor Centre is a chocoholics dream! However, if you're entertaining ideas of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, you may be disappointed. While the Visitor Centre is attached to the actual Cadbury factory, there are no tours that take you inside the manufacturing rooms. Instead, visitors watch an informative DVD about how the chocolate is produced, and then a staff member gives a live demonstration of chocolate being moulded. There are plenty of chocolate samples to try, and if that's not enough, then you can always gorge yourself at the café, or buy reduced-price chocolate from the factory shop. Just take note that the Visitor Centre is closed on weekends and public holidays.
