Hamilton

Hamilton is located in the south west of Victoria and is a major center north of the coastal towns of Portland and Port Fairy and south of Horsham. Hamilton has a shopping area in and around Thompson Street, Brown Street and Gray Street. At the end of Gray Street is Church Hill which has a number of impressive churches.

Lake Hamilton is in the east of the town and has a 25 hectare park. There is also a beach with barbecue facilities at the end of Rippon Road. The lake is encircled with a cycling and walking track that is very popular.

The Botanical Gardens were established in 1870 and at Apex Road there is a well preserved steam locomotive. The gardens contain a fountain and rotunda.

Located in an airplane hangar on the lake's shores is the Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum.

Hamilton Pastoral Museum has historical farming machinery and other farming materials from the early settlers. The museum is in Hiller Lane.

The Big Wool Bales is where you will find the tributes to Hamilton's past was considered as the wool capital of the world. This is found on the Coleraine Road.
