The Great Barrier Reef has a World Heritage listing and is said to be one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It has almost 1000 islands and one of them, Green Island, is a National Park. You can fly there by chopper or the boat trip from Cairns takes a little under an hour. There is no camping but luxury accommodation is available.
You can walk the boardwalks with or without a guide. The tracks are suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The bird and insect life is amazing. It's a hugely popular area with tourists.
You can see the Reef from a glass-bottomed boat or by snorkelling. The island offers sea-birds, forest birds and a huge variety of marine life. It's a terrific way to experience the Great Barrier Reef.
