Geikie Gorge is in Western Australia, about 20 km from the small town of Fitzroy Crossing, and is the most easily accessible park in the Kimberley.
Geikie Gorge is a day use park, with no camping facilities, and camping is not allowed in the park. There are picnic shelters and barbecue grills, water and toilets, however. Several walking trails and a couple of boat tours give you ample opportunity to explore the park. There is also a public boat ramp where you can launch your own boat, but access is restricted and must be cleared with the ranger.
Geikie Gorge has been formed at the junction of the Oscar and Geikie Ranges. The Fitzroy River has carved a 30 meter chasm into the ancient limestone barrier reef that was here during the Devonian period. During the wet season, the Fitzroy is in full flood and covers the entire park. The floods rise up the gorge walls as they’ve done for thousands of years and have bleached the bottom of the walls completely white in stark contrast to the unaffected part.
