D'Etrecasteaux National Park

Australia hotels

D'Etrecasteaux National Park is in Western Australia, about 315 km south of Perth, and near Pemberton; it can be accessed by the Mitchell Freeway. The park is 130 km long, stretching from Black Point east to Long Point, and inland about 20 km.

Facilities at the park include camping, toilets, and wheelchair accessibility, and barbecue and picnic facilities. Most of the park is managed for its raw wilderness. Most of the roads are sand and some of them are only accessible by 4WD vehicles. There are isolated beach camping areas and great fishing areas in the park.

Scenery in the park is spectacular. There are three rivers, the Warren, the Donnelly, and the Shannon which flow through it to the sea. There are wind-swept beaches, mobile sand dunes, breathtaking coastal cliffs, pockets of Karri forest, several lakes and Blackwater, which is a large scale wetlands area. An interesting landform is Black Point, which was formed from lava flows 135 million years ago.
