Dandenong Range National Park

Close to Melbourne is the Dandenong Ranges National Park. In just an hour's drive you are in spectacular forests and fern gullies the home of the majestic lyrebird.

This park is divided into three sections and covers over 3,000 hectares of parkland. The Sherwood Forest section is a great place for bird watching especially if the Lyrebird is one of your favourites. The Ferntree Gully section has lots of walking and hiking trails, and the area off Mt Dandenong Road has picnic and walking areas.

There are walking tracks to suit all ages and for those who prefer to be transported, you can travel on the narrow- gauge steam railway with the famous Puffing Billy. There are many picnic spots and the Mount Dandenong Observatory offers excellent views with even a restaurant on site.
