Coorong National Park can be found at just 2 hours drive from Adelaide. It was developed in 1966 as a sanctuary for many species of mammals, fish and birds. It attracts many migratory bird species, some from as far as Alaska. The area is a vast wetland ecosystem made up of surf beaches, freshwater lakes, river estuaries and saline lagoons.
Visitors can enjoy exploring the park by boat from Goolwa or there are many boat launching sites from Meningie to Policeman's Point. Four wheel drive vehicles can drive directly on the sandy beaches. Or there are numerous walking trails and viewing platforms to choose from. Organised tours can be arranged in neighbouring towns.
There are some excellent camping grounds in the park; alternatively the park is surrounded by a number of townships which can offer different accommodation options as well as cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.
