Clare

Clare was first settled by Europeans in the year 1842 and was named after County Clare in Ireland. Clare is famed for its prize-winning table wines with the first vines planted by Jesuit priests at Sevenhill in the early 1850`s.

Attractions in town
Gift Horse Gallery is present on 130 main Road. National Trust Museum is located in old police station at the corner of Victoria Road and Neagles Rock Road and was built in the year 1850. Lookouts are present at Billy Goat Hill and access is through Wright Street. Maynard Memorial park is present in Pioneer Ave.

Attractions in the Area
Jeanneret Wines, Mitchell Winery and Sevenhill Cellars was established in the early 1850`s and it features Monastery Buildings, including historic St Aloysius Church. Around Watervale 12 km to the south of Clare there is Crabtree of Watervale.

At Auburn, 26 km to the south of Clare there is Riesling Trail which is a 27 km long scenic bike and walking path along the old Clare railway line between Clare and Auburn. Medika Gallery specializes in Australian Bird and Flower Paintings. A scenic drive of 12 km to the North of Clare takes you through Spring Gully Conservation Park which features rare red stringybarks.
