Cessnock is at the southern end of the Hunter Valley. Cessnock district is famous for its excellent Hunter River table wines. This town was previously a coal mining district but now it`s economy is focused on wines and tourism. February marks the month for Vintage festival. March to April months primarily focus on Harvest festival. September months focus primarily on Budfest festival in which food, wine and street parades are common. October month marks for Jazz in the wines and Opera in the vineyards. There are almost 60 wineries in the lower hunter area which are mostly opening for tastings and sales. 11 km to the north of Cessnock at Rothbury hot air ballooning tours are common.
Rusa Park Zoo
Rusa park Zoo an exotic wild life park is present at Nulkaba which is 7km to the North West of Cessnock.
Wollombi
Wollombi is a beautiful village which was once an Aboriginal meeting place and has wealth of historical buildings in the area. St. Johns Anglican church built in the year 1846 is magnificent to watch.
