Cape Melville National Park

Australia hotels

The Cape York peninsular is as far north you can go in Australia. It's only 140 kilometres to Papua New Guinea . Far north Queensland has many national parks including the Cape Melville National Park.

If you like places remote, this huge park will suit. Camping permits are required and it's pretty much BYO everything. You are even required to wear shoes on beach areas to lessen the impact on the delicate terrain.

You can drive through the park but only by 4WD. Fishing is prohibited. Strong links to the original Aboriginal settlements are located through the park as are links to its more recent pastoral use. It's different, remote but well worth the trip for the adventurous types.
