Canowindra

Canowindra is in the Lachlan Valley with the Ages of Fishes Museum with a collection of fossils from the Devonian era. Canowindra is also known as a center for balloon fights. Bushranger Ben Hall and his gang commandeered this town in 1863. Canowindra is situated on the Belubula River and it is famous for its curving Main Street and fine buildings. Gaskill Street has been classified by the National trust as heritage area.

Age of Fishes museum
In Gaskill Street Age of fish’s museum is located which displays fossils from the area. Local memorabilia museum, antique shops, Gondwana dreaming fossil historical digs, etc are present.

Hot-air Balloon
Hot air Balloon rides are arranged between the months of March to November because of favorable weather conditions. There are also various wines and vineyards in the area.

Fish fossils
One of the most interesting points of this town is 360 million years old fish fossils were discovered in the area in the year 1956. This place is located 9 km to the south west of Canowindra. Another major dig took place in the year 1993.
