On the edge of the Gulf of Carpentaria and named after the explorer Robert Burke.
Boodjamulla National Park
Also called Lawn Hill National Park is on the grassy flatlands is a tropical wetland with gorges and escarpments carved out of the limestone. Lots of freshwater crocodiles and other wildlife. At Riversleigh World Heritage site is a very rich fossil site. Not really very near Burketown and a drive of 200km but typical for the outback.
Burketown Museum
Housed in the original post office with local history displays. Musgrave Street.
Nicholson River Wetlands
A breeding ground for crocodiles. About 20km from Burketown.
