Ben Lomond National Park

Australia hotels

Ben Lomond National Park is about an hour drive east of Launceston, in the northeastern part of the island. You will travel onto the Blessington Rd to Ben Lomond Road, and drive about 26 km from there into the park.  Jacobs Ladder is the name of the winding road to the alpine village that is sometimes covered in ice and snow.

Facilities in the park include barbecues grills, car park areas, and lots of nature based activities like bushwalking trails and rock climbing areas for visitors. There is also alpine walking, and cross country and downhill skiing in the park.  The ranger station at the base of the mountain can tell you the road conditions before you attempt to climb it, chains should be carried during the winter. There are six rustic camp sites for tents or campers, and remote camping is permitted anywhere in the park where you are 500 m from the road.

This park includes the second-highest peak in Tasmania. Legges Tor, at 1572 meters above sea level affords great views, the best skiing in Tasmania, and lots of adventure.  A modern ski village is on the plateau, along with the Creek Inn and bar and a licensed restaurant for visitors to the park.
