Ben Boyd National Park, located on the coast 382km south of Sydney, is named after Benjamin Boyd, a prominent 19th century entrepreneur. The scenery comprises rugged cliffs, sandy surf beaches, sheltered bays and historic lighthouses. Its forests and heathlands are home to a wonderful array of plants and animals, including threatened species such as the long-nosed potoroo.
There is a coastal walking path; other activities on offer include fishing, swimming, snorkelling and diving. There are a number of sheltered camping grounds to choose from (book ahead in holiday season), wooded BBQs (bring your own firewood), gas/electric BBQs and non-flush toilets.
Some of the roads in the park are unpaved but access is straightforward by car. You can either head for the northern section via the turn-off into Haycock Road from the Princes Highway or the southern section via Edrom Road, off the Princes Highway.
