Beechworth

Beechworth is a very well preserved former gold mining town. Beechworth is located in north east of Victoria about 284km from Melbourne. Beechworth has important historical value and this is seen in the historical buildings in the town. Camp Street and Ford Street in the town contain buildings such as the Post Office which was built in 1869.

Ford Street is where you find the Historic and Cultural Precinct. This area contains the town's old courthouse, a museum, town hall, telegraph station and a cell that was once used to house Ned Kelly. Beechworth Gaol is still in use even though it was built in around 1860.

Lake Sambell Reserve has a lake and on the front of Albert Road is a Chinese Garden. The area is very popular for barbecues, boating and water activities.

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is popular among walkers and cyclists around this part of the trail at Beechworth.

Beechworth Historic Park recalls the town's past glories during the Australian Gold Rush and there are scenic views of Spring Creek.
