Barrington Tops National Park can be found in the Hunter Valley region, some 200 kilometres from Sydney. Barrington Tops is an impressive 25 kilometre long plateau, extending between a series of extinct volcanic peaks, with more than 20 valleys. This is a World Heritage area and home to a hugely diverse range of flora and fauna (many of which are rare or endangered), due to the extreme contrasts in its ecology, which ranges from sub-tropical to alpine.

Barrington Tops is a particularly popular weekend destination, being within reasonable distance of both Sydney and Newcastle. There are a number of guided walking trails and well-serviced camping grounds.
Roads within the park are well maintained and general sightseeing can be easily achieved without the need for a 4WD. For those not wishing to camp, the nearby towns of Gloucester and Dungog offer a wide range of accommodation options. The park is well signposted as you approach, from all major routes.
