Western Australia is famous for many things one of which is its mighty jarrah forests. You can see some of them just over an hour north of Perth in the Avon Valley National Park. Camping is allowed. The Avon River keeps on changing. In winter it is a raging torrent and in summer becomes a series of pools.
There is a huge variety of birds and animals. There are walking tracks and the area has a feel of the wilderness about it. Being so close to Perth day trips are possible. The cooler months are probably better and don't forget your binoculars to spot all those wonderful birds and animals.
