Melbourne has two airports the main international airport at Tullamarine and the secondary domestic one sued by Jetstar is some way from the city at Avalon but very convenient for Geelong.

It is most likely that you will have to use planes to travel around Australia as the distances are so big. Rental cars are available at all airports and best reserved before arrival.
