Australia dolphin watching

Experiences in Australia

With cobalt blue ocean as far as the eye can see, Australia is one of the worlds top locations for dolphin and whale watching.

Whether you seek the majestic humpbacked whale, the shy minke whale, the infamous killer whale or the graceful bottlenose dolphin, you can be sure to spot these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. Whilst some of the mammals can only be found at certain times of the year, pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins can be found year round, so it’s important to keep your eyes peeled.

There are many boats that operate out of Hervey Bay that provide an excellent chance to spot some of the humpbacked whales, sighted usually from June to November.

You can hand feed wild dolphins at various locations around Australia including Monkey Mia in Western Australia, Mornington in Victoria and Moreton Island in Queensland.

However, if you aren’t wild about the idea of water, Australia also offers a number of spots to view dolphins and whales from land. If you head to South Australia, the Great Australian Bight Marine Park has ample opportunities to whale watch from the safety of solid ground.
