Armidale is in New England in New South Wales about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. A historical town that houses over 30 National Trust buildings, two cathedrals and other historic buildings and surrounded by National Parks. George MacDonald established Armidale as a lands commission base beside Dumaresq creek in 1839.

Gara Gorge
Site of Australia's first hydro electric scheme and good for swimming holes and picnics.

New England National Park
A large park with a diversity of trees and plant life. Point Lookout offers spectacular views.

New England Regional Art Museum
Two of Australia's most important art collections are housed here, the Howard Hinton and Chandler Coventry collections. There are also many works by other Australian artists, such as Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts and Margaret Preston. The museum has eight gallery spaces, an audio visual theatre, a printing museum and a cafe. Kentucky Street, Armidale (02 6772 5255)

Oxley Wild Rivers National Park
This world Heritage listed park is located 25km south east of Armidale. This park has a large area of dry rainforest, gorges, waterfalls and high plateaus. Danger Falls is a popular spot to view the 120 metre waterfall and gorge, as well as Wollomombi falls where water drops 220 metres.

Wollomombi and Chandler Falls
Part of the spectacular and rugges Oxley Wild rivers National Park and the Wollomombi falls drop 220 metres and are the second highest falls in Australia.
